When I discovered how easy this was to make, I almost couldn’t believe it! Seriously, you only need four ingredients (one of which is water) and you can make your own foaming soap that DOES NOT contain chemicals, that DOES clean and DOES smell wonderful. When you take a look at the exhaustive list of ingredients on a Bath and Body Works foaming soap alone (though I am positive they are not the only offenders!), it is overwhelming and you got to wonder, what in the world ARE all these things that we are lathering over our hands multiple time a day, trusting that the only thing they are doing to our skin is cleaning it?!
Take a look for yourself:
If I’ve learned anything since going the “natural” route, it is this: always, always, always check the ingredients. If the ingredients on anything resembles a paragraph, most likely you’re ingesting or lathering something on yourself that is not made from a plant, it is mostly likely made IN a plant. Totally different. Your body knows the difference, and often responds in everyday sickness that we have become so accustomed to.
Anyway, the recipe! This is so easy, you’ll wonder why you haven’t done this sooner. Just save an old foaming soap dispenser, or snag one like this on Amazon.com.
3 T liquid castille soap (unscented if you’re going to add essential oils)
1/2 tsp olive oil
3-5 drops essential oils (OnGuard, peppermint, lavender and lemon are all great choices)
Simply fill dispenser with water, with about 2 inches of room to spare from the top. Pour in all the ingredients, including 3-5 drops of essential oil. My favorite EO to use in my foaming soap is OnGuard*, which supports healthy immune systems, kills germs and pathogens and much more. Secure top and use liberally! I couldn’t believe how simple this was. The ingredients are an investment if you don’t have EO’s and castille soap lying around, but they go a long way and as you explore more ways to ditch chemicals, you’ll often find these two popping up a lot on your list of ingredients.
